Oxygen Safety Tips

Always use oxygen very carefully, highly concentrated oxygen will make a smoldering object, like a cigarette, burst into flames. Oxygen under pressure will explode if it gets too hot. To prevent such accidents, follow these simple guidelines.
Alert the local fire department that there is oxygen in the house and keep an all-purpose fire extinguisher on hand.
Keep an oxygen supply at least five (5) feet from a heat source, and never use a fireplace for heat. Also, keep oxygen supply at least five (5) feet from electrical appliances.
Don't use oxygen around a stove or space heater.
Don't use electric blankets or electric heating pads.
Don't smoke and don't let visitors smoke.
Wear all cotton clothing and use all cotton sheets and blankets, if possible. Also, try to avoid creating static electricity.
Don't use moisturizers or other products that contain oil, petroleum products, or alcohol, while you are using your oxygen, or for three (3) to six (6) hours after you stop using oxygen. Oil and alcohol are both flammable, and oxygen remains in bed linens and clothing for as long as three (3) to six (6) hours after use.
Don't run oxygen tubing under clothing, bed covers, furniture or carpeting.
Keep the oxygen turned off when not in use. (Use main valve)
Never put a container of oxygen in the trunk of a car.
Keep oxygen units out of reach of children.
Wipe off equipment with warm water and a household detergent to keep it free from dust.
